Celebrating St Mary’s School Sports Day 2025!
Our annual School Sports Day has always been a treasured and special day in the life of St Mary’s, and Sports Day 2025 certainly proved to be so, as our school community came together on Friday, 13th June for a day filled with energy, colour, participation and joy. For, more than just races and ribbons, the ethos and objective of our special day was to facilitate and promote inclusion, participation, teamwork and fun physical activity, for every child in our school.
With Mr Kavanagh kindly organising and co-ordinating much of the day’s proceedings, ably supported by our entire school staff, our scheduled programme aimed to blend traditional competitive events with inclusive activities, where effort and participation are celebrated just as much as speed. Our six teams of children, proudly wearing their respective coloured bands, came together and participated for each other, building confidence, encouraging movement, nurturing friendships, having fun, and fostering, hopefully, a lifelong love for being active. We congratulate every child for your efforts, participation and friendship, and hope you had a most enjoyable day! We were surely blessed with the weather, too, and greatly appreciated the lovely sunshine overhead for much of the day!
Of course, a memorable Sports Day is powered by people, thus enabling our children to enjoy their special day. A sincere word of thanks to Mr Kavanagh, Mrs Sweeney and all our school staff - teaching and support - for all of your planning, efforts and hard work prior to and on Sports Day, itself. We thank our wonderful past pupil Sean McNally for your kindness, patience and friendship to our children, and Danielle and Terence for ensuring that everybody had a welcome cup of tea and coffee, when required. We extend appreciation to our parents, grandparents, siblings and delightful past pupils, for your presence and support, and trust everybody had a most enjoyable day. We also greatly acknowledge and appreciate the most generous support of Knockninny Credit Union and McBride’s Spar, Derrylin. Thank you, everyone. Hopefully, Friday was a day in which we build memories and habits that last far beyond the school gates.
Finally, a special word of thanks to our Primary Seven girls - Eva, Gracie, Aoibheann, Mia, Sapphire and Ava - for your hard work and creativity in compiling the video as below. We trust that it captures the fun, spirit and inclusive participation of our children on Sports Day 2025!
