‘Go All In!’ - Celebrating World Book Day 2026
Our children, families and staff were delighted to celebrate our collective love of reading and books when marking World Book Day 2026, recently.
This celebration on 5th March preceded the arrival of our annual Scholastic/Travelling Books Book Fair (which runs from Monday, 23rd - Friday, 27th March, next). Surely, in an increasingly digital world, it is still most special and uplifting to witness the excitement and wonder of a child with a book… As our school staff and parent body continue to foster and nurture a love of and appreciation for reading, books and literacy amongst our children and young people, each day, our ideal remains - to develop students that are not only skilled and competent readers, but are also inquisitive and habitual learners. We firmly believe that when students are given the autonomy to make decisions in what they’re reading, reading feels less like an assignment or a chore and more like an opportunity.
World Book Day 2026 took place of course during this National Year of Reading 2026, a year wherein it is hoped to get more people reading by bringing reading to where culture is. Hence, the theme - ‘Go All In!’ - if you’re into it, read into it… The campaign is all about inspiring more people - children and adults - to discover - or rediscover - the joy of reading and reconnect with the things that inspire us.
World Book Day gave us a further opportunity for children to enjoy the life-changing benefits of reading for fun. We fully support its mission of promoting reading for fun and reading for pleasure, wanting to encourage all of our young people develop that crucial life-long habit of reading for pleasure and the improved life chances this brings them.
We pay tribute to our children, parents, families and staff for taking part in our celebrations. It was wonderful to share in the array of favourite book characters! Thank you to everyone for encouraging and helping our children celebrate their favourite stories, books and characters on this special day. A particular word of appreciation is reserved for two fine young members of our Primary Seven class - Cian and Aaron - who demonstrated admirable patience, resilience, skill and commitment, in putting together the compilation as below. Thank you and well done, boys…
