Let’s Read! Celebrating Book Fair 2025 and World Book Day!

9th Apr 2025

Our school community was delighted to come together in recent weeks to celebrate our collective love of reading and books, when marking World Book Day 2025, and holding our annual Scholastic/Travelling Books Book Fair. In an increasingly digital world, it is most uplifting to witness the excitement and wonder that continues to surround this special week, in our school calendar.

As our school staff and parent body continue to foster and nurture literacy and books, and a love of and appreciation for reading amongst our children, every day, our ideal remains - to develop students that are not only skilled and competent readers, but are also inquisitive and habitual learners. We firmly believe that when students are given the autonomy to make decisions in what they’re reading, reading feels less like an assignment or a chore and more like an opportunity…

Our week’s celebrations involved a range of literacy-themed activities including art and poetry, author studies, quizzes and competitions, shared and group reading, and a ‘Pyjama Day’, whereby our children had opportunities to ‘curl up and read’ a selection of favourite material and authors. Crucially, too, the fantastic proceeds from our Book Fair enabled us to select a tremendous number and range of new titles through our book commission process. This has resulted in each classroom’s library being supplemented with a pleasing range of new titles and resources.

Of course, as ever, the success of our special week would not have been possible without the enthusiasm and support of our students, staff, and parents and grandparents. A most sincere word of thanks to our children, parents and grandparents, for your interest, passion and support of our Fair, and all its related activities. We thank all of our school staff - teaching and support. A very special thank-you is reserved for Mrs Gunn and Mrs Prunty, whose methodical planning, organisation, hard work and many efforts, ensured that this dedicated and extra-special week was so successful. Thank you, Maureen and Mary…
