Shared Education - Community Day visit to Belturbet

25th Mar 2026

On Wednesday 23rd March, pupils from Primary 4 and Primary 5, along with the Senior Class from Fairgreen National School, enjoyed a bright and engaging day of STEMA (Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths and Art) activities, while also deepening their understanding of local history and geography.

A highlight of the day, was a guided walk around Belturbet village, led by Mrs Beryl Trenier, former Principal of Fairgreen National School. Mrs Trenier shared her extensive knowledge of the local area, helping pupils to discover important landmarks and points of interest. Having dedicated 37 years of service to Fairgreen NS before retiring in June 2021, her insights brought the local history to life and were greatly enjoyed by the children.

The learning continued through practical, hands?on activities. The Fairgreen Parent Teacher Association organised a planting workshop, giving pupils the opportunity to explore the plant life cycle and develop their scientific understanding through real?world experience. Alongside this, staff from St Mary’s led an art and pottery session, where children created plant pots to house their seedlings. These will continue to grow and thrive under the careful care of each pupil.

The day was filled with curiosity, creativity and collaboration, offering meaningful opportunities for pupils to develop a wide range of skills across several curriculum areas. It was a thoroughly enjoyable and enriching experience for all involved.

We would like to extend our thanks to everyone who contributed to making the day such a success, particularly Mrs Trenier and the Fairgreen PTA. It was a wonderful example of learning through community, creativity and hands?on engagement.
