Shared Education Choir visit North South Ministerial Council
The twenty-eighth North South Ministerial Council Education meeting was held in Monaghan Peace Campus on 23rd of January 2026. Our Shared Education children’s choir, had the incredible honour of performing for government officials, sharing their voices in a moment that beautifully blended music, pride and purpose.
The meeting was attended by Hildegard Naughton TD, Minister for Education and Youth, Paul Givan MLA, Minister for Education and John O’Dowd MLA, Minister for Finance.
With confidence and joy, these youngsters, along with pupils from St Aidan’s High School and Fairgreen National School, Belturbet filled the room with harmony, reminding everyone present of the power of music to bring people together across generations and backgrounds.
Their dedication and hard work were on full display and they represented our community with grace, enthusiasm and heart.
Led by Christine McCarron from St Aidan’s High School, Derrylin, children performed ‘Imagine’ by John Lennon, ‘Dreams’ by the Cranberries and ‘Red is the Rose’ by the High Kings. Ministers were smiling and somewhat emotional, as our choir sang these beautiful songs in unison.
Students were delighted to receive a special message from NI Education Minister, Paul Givan, quoting ‘No homework for choir members on Monday!’.
We are so proud of our choir for rising to this special occasion and leaving a lasting impression through song. What an unforgettable experience and a powerful reminder, that young voices truly matter.
