Shared Education continues with focus on STEM

22nd Apr 2026

On Wednesday 22nd April, pupils in Primary 4 and Primary 5, along with the senior class from Fairgreen National School, took part in an exciting and inspiring series of STEM workshops led by Roy McClelland from Sentinus.

Sentinus is a not?for?profit charity with over 30 years of experience in delivering high?quality STEM and digital skills programmes across Ireland. Their sessions focus on hands?on, practical learning to spark curiosity, creativity and a genuine interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

Throughout the workshops, pupils were actively involved in a range of engaging challenges designed to develop problem?solving, teamwork and creative thinking skills. One highlight saw the children work collaboratively to construct towers made entirely from paper! Following a clear and engaging demonstration from Roy, pupils successfully built impressive structures reaching over six feet tall!

Later in the day, children explored forces and motion, as they designed and created moving vehicles and windmills, applying their scientific understanding in a fun and practical way. The sessions were filled with curiosity, discussion, reflection and excellent collaboration, with pupils fully engaged throughout.

We would like to extend a huge thank you to Roy for delivering such an enjoyable and enriching experience. The workshops were thoroughly enjoyed by all involved, and pupils are already looking forward to taking their learning further through future STEM activities in class.
